So with Kat and sue this week we have learnt and practised face contouring, both dramatic and soft contouring. In all honesty I found it quite difficult to pick up at first as the whole contouring is quite alien to me, as iv never done it on myself apart from halloween!! ( never a good sign) anyway we were show what brushes to use, face products and the face anatomy.

and too prove my point that there is a fine line between good contouring and 'iv just painted myself like a clown' contouring; I watched the dreaded youtube vids of amateurs tackling this craze witch was made by the big names such as Kim Kardashian....come on who doesn't want check bones like hers that hit the ceiling......right?!

In all honesty contouring is absolutely fine as long as its subtle. I no that, that amount of makeup on my own face would be far too much to just pop to the shops with, without it falling off all over my fruit and fibre!

Carina Buckley Analytical Review - The Danger Dress

Down town venice blvd, in the blazing mid afternoon sun. we set up for the surfing cowboy shoot with the stunning Camilla. After years of dealing with body confidence issues and over coming them. she came came forward for a modelling competition in which she not only won it, but wiped the floor clean, and we thank God today she did.
 In her white pumps and short dress that looks fresh off a tennis court, she's rocking this easy wear outfit that even the most body consusous type of woman can wear.
As the shadows draw longer and this exciting day comes to an end, the four hours of re application of make up and hair have taken a toll on the crew and everyone takes a brake and I see my prime opportunity to get my hands on the brain behind this stunning image being portrayed in front of us. with my bag full of questions and a ice tea in hand i'm greeted by a very cheerful Rumi, who's infectious friendly attitude is a breath of fresh air on such an intense shoot.
i cant help but forgetting that actually i'm ment to be working and not be joking with a fashion tycoon, so once i grounded myself i ask the most basic of questions;

Halloween!!

So halloween is one of my fraviuot times of year, to me its probley more fun then christmas.

my friends always wait in anticipation to see what freaky thing i try and pull off; Last year I made a dramatic Marie Antoinette costume .....so this year I really wanted to top that with crazy special effect makeup! 

To say i didn't scare a few kids trickle treating would be an understatement of the year! mahahahhaha

So to achieve the first look "zip face" I checked out a few ideas on line and everyone had different techniques to pull it off so I just generalised all that info and made my own plan of action. As i'm allergic to latex I had to be careful with what I used. I bought a zip from a fabric shop, I used eye lash glue to actually stick the zip to my face once I cut it down to shape and size and applied, then using a small painters brush applied 7 layers of none latex glue around the edges to help camaflage the fabric for when I applied my make up. Once it had all dried I applied my base and conceler as i would on a normal day and around the "wound"  for the actual wound i used wet and dried blood and bright red lipstick to cover wound. and to add more definition i used black pencil to smudge around edges.

Again for this look I used the 7 layer technique this may be different for some but i found it made the "skin" look real enough, so using tissue paper i layered 7 times and dried off each layer before continueing, once done I then again applied my make up like normal before adding to the wounds. I wanted this look to be like a car crash victim, with my face half off. Naturally there would be bruising so don't forget to create this in typical areas and blood. I also peeled the skin slightly to create a blown off look. With a white eye pencil I drew in teeth and defined with a black pencil.


Having created both these looks, looking back on it now I no I need to be more vigilant with products that I buy as I still managed to have a reaction to the zip face. which wasn't fun!

my elizabethan self portrait AKA selfie

Iv chosen this self portrait of myself in my home. i really feel this photo shows the type of character I am both impulsive and yet tidy and controlled when needs be.

As you can see my home is really orderly especially as I have three small boys. I like things being in threes or two and symectrical. some say i'm mad for having cream carpets with boys but iv never had a problem............(three hovers later) theres lots of green around my home as this is my favourite colour, My gym clothes and facial expression symbolise my energy and love for the gym.

I feel my wealth isn't necessarily shown though the goods that i have rather though my happy state of mind.

Symbolism in Elizabethan portraiture

This portrait is full of symbolism, this is by far one of my favourite in my eyes and the most iconic of Elizabeth I.

The first thing i notice about this portraits likely the same as anyone one else viewing it, is the battle ships in the background.To the left of Elizabeth are the English navy ships which are sailing on calm waters and yet to the right of Elizabeth is the Spanish Amerada battling against the choppy waters and being recked against and into the rocks. This is a powerful statement she making, she doesn't often engage in war but when she does, she is a force to be reckoned with for the sake of her country.

Elizabeth is also showing not only her wealth but also how well England is doing by the fine refinishing of her clothes. The amount of pearls scattered on her dress and hair are over the top and could be looking at boosting, however I don't feel like she's boosting as these photos were used to show others of how well a certain someone was doing. She's very cleverly has her hand posed over the globe but not only on english turf but also south america, again this could be a indication to her plans on expenditure.

Elizabeth wanted to be seen as godlessly and I really feel here she demonstrates it very well, when i think of Elizabeth I, I think of a powerful woman ready to take on the world.............and to a certain extent she did.

The legend that is Kevyn Aucoin

Kevyn Aucoin is a legend withen in his own right. Famous for creating the iconic looks on Courtney Love of smoky eyes and smudge lips.This amazing man was not only a awesome makeup artist but also a photographer and writer with such books as Face forward, The Art of Makeup and Making Faces, with two being Time Magazine best sellers.

His career really took off once he moved to New york and in 1983  and collaborated with Revlon and launch The New Nakards. This was makeup which catered for ALL skins tones and was a monumental moment in the makeup world.
Even though he was best known for his outrageous and infectious personality Kevyn hid demons from his past. Bought up with strict catholic adoptive parents wasn't easy especially as they weren't so forth coming in understanding his sexuality.
 After years of dealing with health condition and a perception drug habit Kevyn died aged forty, but the legend that is Kevyn Aucoin still lives on.........
